Isle Royale 2015
Twenty Five students from Norway-Vulcan Middle School recently attended their Fourth annual educational trip to Isle Royale. The program is a part of Renewable World Energies and the Isle Royale Education Program. Through this program, teachers and students work with the IREP staff to increase student awareness of National Parks, and renewable energies.
The experience is one to not be taken for granted. Students have access to a once in a lifetime opportunity to travel to a place where science and history come to life! Students are able to learn about geology; how the island was formed, energy; thermal, solar, mechanical and the like, as well as different species of animals and plants and how they are unique to only Isle Royale. Not only do students learn about these academic areas, but are able to really understand and apply the abstract concepts through hikes and workshops. Students also continue to complete regular classroom work while on the island.
The IREP program is continuing to grow and provide unique educational experiences for these students. As the program gets bigger there is hope to have nationwide impact by having educational school programs offered for students in national parks across the country.
